SWIMMING IN NATURE

A wetlandPOOL is a swimming pool where the water is filtered through a wetland to keep it clear. The pool is like a natural wetland where water moves slowly through a mass of roots and substrate that act as an organic filter and strip nutrients and minerals from the water. The plants then absorb the nutrients which become plant mass, and the water is stripped to pure water. A wetlandPOOL is a closed ecosystem and the water is constantly cycled through the pool and wetland, getting cleaner and cleaner. The water pure, stripped of all nutrients, consisting entirely of natural, clear and clean water.

The pool is divided into two areas, the swimming area and the wetland. The pool and the wetland can be the same body of water, or they can be partially or entirely separate. The parts can be joined by streams or waterfalls, and be on many different levels. Aeration of the water is an essential part of a wetlandPOOL, and the sound of flowing water is ever present. Converting a conventional pool into a wetland pool can be easily done.

The wetland is planted with a whole host of carefully selected wetland plants from water lilies to papyrus and sedges. The fresh water attracts birds and animal life, and the pool becomes like a mountain rock pool - a magnet for all life and the heart of your garden.
